How to Judge Whether a Quartz Analog Watch is Magnetized? How to Demagnetize the Watch?

Jan 12,2023/Watch Education

When wearing a watch, if the quartz analog wrist watch accidentally comes into contact with objects such as generators and motors with strong magnetic fields, or if the watch is placed on a radio or TV set, the watch will be magnetized and the watch will appear to be inaccurate, or even stop.

In this case, you should go to the watch repair department as soon as possible to repair it to professionals to ensure that the watch will not bring more inconvenience to your daily life after the watch is demagnetized.

1. How to judge the magnetism of a quartz analog wrist watch?

Compass: Put the watch close to the compass. If the compass deflects a lot, the watch is magnetized. Even if the watch is not magnetized, because the watch itself is made of steel, when the quartz analog wrist watch is close to the compass, the compass will move slightly, but the deflection is very small.

This method can also be used to detect the presence of magnetic fields where watches are kept. Take the compass to the place where the watch is kept. If the compass is deflected, there is a suspicious magnet nearby. Tools made of iron and steel at home, such as vise, are often magnetized when they are close to the magnet without knowing it. Such magnetized tools should also be removed from the place where the watch is kept.

2. How to eliminate the magnetization of quartz analog wrist watches?

A watch degausser can be used to demagnetize a watch. The method is to turn on the power first, press the red switch, hold the watch with your hand, the surface is upward, pass from top to bottom, and then repeat. This has already degaussed; but note that the movement cannot directly touch the degausser, and must be in one direction when passing through the degausser.

Whether it is a mechanical watch or a quartz watch, including a quartz women's watch, there are mechanical rotating parts in the movement. Under the influence of the magnet, the mechanical parts are pulled by the magnetic force, and of course they cannot rotate. After the magnet is removed, the magnetic force is eliminated, and the machine can move by itself again.

However, because the mechanical parts in the quartz analog wrist watch are close to the magnet, they will be magnetically charged. Therefore, the future rotation process will be greatly affected. The obvious performance is that the watch moves slowly.

As a leading watch manufacturer, we mainly focus on high-end stainless steel watches with quartz and mechanical movements, including Swiss ETA, ISA, Ronda, Miyota and Seiko movements. Our high quality watches are well-known in many parts of the world including Europe and America. We ensure rigorous quality checks in every part of production, right up to the final finish of our exclusive timepieces. Welcome to consult.
